A big fire in the middle of Place Sainte-Anne.
After a wild demonstration at the call of the ultra-left this Thursday evening in downtown Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine), scuffles broke out between demonstrators and the police around 10:30 p.m., reports Ouest-France .

It all started with a party organized illegally by a hundred people, underlines France Bleu Armorique.
Among them, several dozen are hooded, dressed in black and sheltered behind umbrellas.
A police intervention quickly disperses them, says Ouest-France, but it was then that the violence occurred.
Two successive lights
A fire was reportedly lit by the demonstrators who, when the security forces arrived, launched projectiles and mortar fire in their direction.
The police then responded with tear gas to contain this demonstration which had about 200 participants.
Firefighters were then quickly able to intervene to put out the fire.
If no victim is to be deplored, the damage seems however impressive.

A second fire broke out a few minutes later, after the demonstrators damaged construction sites which were in their path.
A new police charge around 1 a.m. finally dispersed the crowd and put an end to the clashes.
