Conductor Daniel Barenboim stops performing: "I was diagnosed with a serious neurological problem"
In a message published on social media, the renowned Jewish conductor and pianist wrote: "My health has deteriorated in recent months and I have been diagnosed with a serious neurological problem. I must now focus on recovering as much as I can."

The renowned Jewish conductor and pianist Daniel Barenboim announced (Thursday) that he is stopping performing due to medical problems.
A message on his behalf published on Twitter reads: "It is with a combination of pride and sadness that I am forced to announce today that I am taking a break from performing, mainly as a conductor, for the next few months. My health has deteriorated in recent months and I have been diagnosed with a serious neurological problem. I must now focus on recovering as much as I can. Music has always been - and still is - an essential part of my life. I have lived my whole life with music and will continue to do so as long as my health allows me."
The 79-year-old Barenbaum, who currently serves as music director of the Berlin State Orchestra, has canceled several shows and tours in recent months due to health problems.
In the past he was the music director of the Chicago and Paris symphony orchestras and of the opera house "La Scala" in Milan.
He has received many honors, including Knight of the Order of the British Empire, Member of the French Legion of Honor, Member of the Order of Honor of the Federal Republic of Germany and recipient of the Prince of Asturias Awards.
Barenboim is considered one of the most important conductors and pianists in the world.
Barenboim is considered one of the fiercest critics of Israel's policy in the territories.
