The smartphone market fell in the third quarter of 2022 by 9%, according to a report published by the research company Canalys. According to the report, this is the worst third quarter since 2014, when Apple is the manufacturer that recorded the most significant increase in market share (from 15% to 18%) compared to the same period last year.
Samsung registered an increase of a single percentage - from 21% to 22%.
Another interesting figure is that Samsung continues to lead the global smartphone market with 22%, but on the other hand, Apple knocked Xiaomi from second place and is only 4% away from Samsung - a significant reduction in the gap in market share compared to previous years.
OPPO and OnePlus (part of the Chinese BBK corporation) are together in fourth place with 10%, followed immediately by VIVO (also from BBK) with only 9%.

When in the background the impact of the corona epidemic is (still) echoing in the market, and while the fighting in Ukraine continues, it is evident that people around the world are in no rush to replace the old device.
You can also learn that the priority is to upgrade to a smartphone that will last longer, under a reliable brand (Apple or Samsung).
"The smartphone market is very responsive to consumer demand and carriers are quickly adapting to the difficult business conditions," Canalys analyst Amber Liu said, adding: "For most carriers, the priority is to reduce the risk of inventory build-up given dwindling demand. Carriers had significant inventories heading into July, but Sales have gradually improved since September due to aggressive discounts and promotions."
"Entering the sales season, consumers delaying purchases will expect deep discounts and bundle deals as well as significant price reductions on older generation devices. Compared to the strong demand period of the previous year, a slow but steady festive sale is expected in the fourth quarter of 2022,"
