Audi R8 Performance (Audi)

Attention passengers on the Audi R8V10 flight to Engelstadt, this is the last call for those who still want to experience the violent kick of 10 pistons that force you forward before they retire.

But not only for you, also for everyone who is looking for the wildest compact in the world - Audi RS3 that will come in a performance version in limited production.

Yes, Audi is starting to mark the way to its electric future, but just before that invites you to have one last taste of this addictive liquid that powered its performance cars in all the years before electricity.

Everything you need to know about them in one place.

When Audi started producing the R8 the world didn't really know how to eat it.

A kind of supercar, the nature reserve of the Italians from a German manufacturer that has always appealed to the intelligence of its customers.

But persistence paid off and thanks to its capabilities and not least racing glory in the world endurance circuits, this car slowly gained a place of honor among driving enthusiasts who wanted a technological appeal for their sports machine.

Now, in the twilight of its second generation, Audi presents the R8 in a last and extreme edition.

The engine is a V10 with a volume of 5.2 liters with rear wheel drive and a double clutch gearbox, yes exactly the recipe for its non-twin sister from Lamborghini - the Huracan.

This is not the first rear-wheel drive version of the Audi R8, but it is its most powerful with 620 hp instead of the 570 that this version had to make do with until now. The meaning in terms of performance is a cut of 0.4 seconds to 100, so that the figure stands at 3.4 seconds and a maximum speed of 320 km/h.

But the real reason for the party here is not these performances, really, we passed the age of 0-100.

What is interesting here is the multitude of other improvements that Audi loaded on this car such as aerodynamic aids such as the small wings at the end of the front bumper and the huge rear wing.

Replacing everything possible with carbon fiber parts (seats, front stabilizer bar), manual adjustment of the shock absorbers that will now come in a coil-over configuration (combined shock absorber-spring unit), new 20-inch rims - all these resulted in a diet of 20 kg from the weight .

Also in the list of additions and upgrades you will find a new traction control, in which you are not satisfied with an active or inactive mode, or 4 modes, but 7 modes that allow the driver to decide whether he wants to drive with full supervision of all the systems or to disconnect them completely because this is what he paid around two million shekels for This car and his right to make it part of the scenery at the next round.

Perhaps equipping the car with ultra-sporty Michelin Cap 2 tires will help keep this car on the right side of the asphalt after all.

Those of you with the best memory may remember that at the end of 2017, Audi already planned to say goodbye to the R8 by 2020 and focus on sporty crossovers.

So we are two years after the "Sh" time and she is still with us, alive and kicking, and maybe just maybe this time too she will get a few more years of grace?

RS3 makes 300

Back in our first meeting with the current generation of Audi RS3 we realized that this time they did something completely different.

From a very fast car, but synthetic and artificial, they turned it into a paste demon that also knows how to get its tail out with crazy power slides.

Pushed forward by the 5-cylinder 2.5-liter engine and supported by a torque distribution mechanism that sends power to each wheel separately and is able to turn it into a real drift car.

Now comes the moment to squeeze this lemon a little more and it comes in the form of an enhanced and limited "Performance" edition.

Yep, this is an Audi that knows how to oversteer under power (photo: manufacturer's website)

As far as the engine is concerned, there are no far-reaching changes, the recipe is still the same 5 cylinders with a volume of 2.5 liters laterally that drive all four wheels.

The power increased by only 7 hp to 407 hp.

The last thing you can say about them is "only" for a compact car.

The Konz-patent - a slight increase in the filling pressure by 0.1 bar (from 1.5 to 1.6 if you really want to know).

Another improvement that Audi claims to have been able to give her is the distribution of the torque (51 kgm) over a wider range of rpm.

The 0-100 figure also remains the same - 3.8 seconds, but they did manage to push the top speed to around 300 km/h. Again, take a moment to think about a compact car that drops the kids off at kindergarten, picks up a package from the post office, and then just drives 300 km "That.

Other changes that Audi introduces in the performance version concern everything that should help it to be fast even in turns, not only in a straight line.

It starts at the bottom, with Pirelli Tropoo R semi-slick tires that blur the line between track and road tires.

An improved exhaust system, adaptive RS dampers and improvements to the RS3's special torque split.

And the number 300 is not only the maximum speed figure, it also indicates the total number of units that the company will produce of this version.

Only 300 units of the absolute version of who is the absolute hot compact and probably the last of its kind or name.
