The Electric Company warns of a new scam: phone calls in which the caller presents himself as a company employee and requests payment in cash for the electricity bills - and threatens to cut off the electricity supply if they do not pay immediately.

"In some cases, the fraudster sends taxi drivers to pick up an envelope with money from the stung customer," said a statement from the electric company.

"Recently, the Electric Company received a number of complaints from customers, most of them business owners, who said that they received calls from a person identifying himself as an employee of the Electric Company under false names and threatening them with disconnection from the electricity supply," the Electric Company added.

"The Electric Company clarifies that cash collection is carried out exclusively at the company's offices and in the company's official customer service centers. It certainly does not send taxi drivers to collect money. The company requests that no cash be paid to any collector who presents himself on behalf of the Electric Company," they added.
