The electric cars are less reliable than gasoline and hybrid cars, mainly because for most manufacturers apart from Tesla, these are new technologies, which they are still learning.

This is according to the annual reliability report of the American consumer magazine Consumer Reports.

The report, which is based on the opinions of 300,000 owners of cars from the 2020 to 2022 models in North America, reviews the cars sold in the US and Canada, so many models sold in Israel, mainly from French manufacturers who are absent from the market there, are not reviewed. Likewise, European brands that are sold in small quantities , such as Fiat and Alfa Romeo.

Among the electric cars that were praised for their reliability were the Kia EV6, which will be launched in Israel next month, and among the worst were the Hyundai Kona, and the Chevy Bolt, which is not regularly imported to Israel, but arrives in small numbers through personal and parallel imports. Malfunctions in the charging system, the electric motors and chassis The batteries appeared too frequently in most trams.

Tesla, which launched the Model S about a decade ago and has gained more electric experience than others, presents slightly better data.

Model 3, its best-selling model in Israel, manages to reach an average level of reliability.

But the larger Model S didn't escape the problems of other streetcars, with steering and suspension failures.

Like the Model Y, according to Consumer Reports, it also suffers from problems with the air conditioning and heating systems.

The S and Y models also suffer from touchscreen issues.

The spectacular Model X, which has received low reliability scores in the past, sold in small numbers, which did less harm to Tesla's overall rating in the report.

Hybrids, however, generally scored highly in the report, with the most reliable car being the Toyota Corolla Hybrid, which earned a combined score of 93 out of 100. It was followed by the Toyota Land Cruiser-based Lexus GS (91), the Mini Cooper and the Toyota Prius (89 each), Mazda MX5 (with 85), the recreational vehicle not marketed in the country Lincoln Corsair (82), Toyota Corolla gasoline (81), Subaru XV Crosstrack (80), BMW 3 Series (80) and Toyota Prius Plug-in (77). The large number of Toyota concern models in particular and Japanese models in general is not surprising, but the achievement of BMW Mini to put two cars in the top ten is noteworthy.

The least reliable models were the Ford F150 hybrid pickup that is not marketed in Israel (4 out of 100), the Hyundai Kona Electric (5), the Lincoln Aviator that is not sold in Israel (8), the Nissan Sentra (9), the Ford Explorer (16), the Chevrolet Bolt ( 17), Chevrolet Silverado (19), Jeep Gladiator (21), Mercedes GLE (with 23) and Jeep Wrangler (24).

Although the editors of Consumer Reports note that the sedan models exhibited higher reliability on average than Jeeps and crossovers, there were some that disappointed.

The Sentra, like the Hyundai Elantra, lost the magazine editors' buy recommendation because of their reliability rating.
