A relatively short official driving range of only 305 km did not prevent the Hyundai Kona EV from selling about 850 units in Israel this year and becoming one of the ten best-selling electric cars in Israel.
But when the Chinese crossovers promise a range of over 400 km at almost the same price, the Korean is left behind in one of the most important parameters for buyers of these cars.
So now the Korean tram has a solution to the issue of range, but at a price, literally: a long-range version, with a larger battery, a significantly longer range, and a price that jumped by NIS 36,000.
The standard EV buyer has a 39 kWh battery and it costs NIS 149,000. In recent days, importer Hyundai Kalmobil has started accepting orders for a version with a 64 kWh battery, with an official range of 480 km, at a price of NIS 185,000. The sale of the regular version continues The price tag is NIS 5,000 cheaper than the electric Kia Niro Plus, which is equipped with the same, but slightly larger, battery.

Performance has also been improved
This is 20 km more than the range of the Geely Geometric C, 60 km more than what the BYD Auto 3 offers, and even 139 km more than that of the competing Peugeot e2008. But the long-term buyer is more expensive than them - NIS 25,000, NIS 28,500 and NIS 20,000, respectively.
The performance is better than the regular version: the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is shortened from 9.9 seconds to 7.9 seconds, and the computer-limited top speed increases from 155 to -167 km/h. The Kona EV is capable of slow charging (AC) of 11 kW, which will fill an empty battery in 7 hours. It supports fast charging (DC) at a rate of up to 77 kW and will need 44 minutes to charge the increased battery from 10% to 80%.
The equipment remains unchanged: 8-inch multimedia screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 10.25-inch digital dashboard, electrically adjustable driver and passenger seats, smart key, folding electric mirrors and light 17-inch wheels.
The safety equipment includes front and rear autonomous emergency braking, lane departure correction and lane keeping, warning and prevention of a collision with a vehicle in a dead area and 6 airbags.
However the cruise control is not adaptive.
Hyundai will unveil a brand new model of the buyer next year.
