Musician Christine McVie, the singer and keyboardist of the band Fleetwood Mac, passed away at the age of 79 - her family said.
In a statement on behalf of her family, it was said that McVeigh was "a revered musician who was loved around the world."
Her bandmates said they were "broken by the heavy loss" and described her as "the best friend anyone could ask for".
Some of the songs she sings in the band are some of her best known, such as "Don't Stop" and "Tusk".
Her Facebook page read: "Christine died peacefully in hospital this morning after a short illness. She was by her family's side. We ask that you respect the family's privacy during this difficult time and we ask that everyone remember Christine in their hearts and remember the life of a wonderful person and an extraordinary musician. May she be Blessed memory."
Christine McVie was born Christine Perfect.
She joined Fleetwood Mac in 1970 after marrying John McVeigh, the band's founder.
In addition to her membership in the band, she also released three solo albums.
In 1998 she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
In the same year she also retired from the world of music and since then she has only released one album in 2004.
In 2013, she appeared with Fleetwood Mac on stage and rejoined the band in 2014, and went on a world tour with her friends.
