In a document sent to doctors on Tuesday, the Ministry of Health calls for vigilance in the face of cases of serious streptococcal A infections which have been reported
"in greater numbers than usual"
for two weeks.
Eight children with no identified risk factor were hospitalized in intensive care after being infected with the bacteria.
Two of them died, specifies the General Directorate of Health in a bulletin “DGS Urgent”.
Three cases, including one death, have also been reported in adults.

Strep A infection, a bacterium that is naturally present in humans, is most often mild.
It is manifested by angina, scarlet fever or, more rarely, in the form of a respiratory infection, such as bronchiolitis, or redness on the skin associated with persistent fever.
In all cases, it must be treated as quickly as possible by taking antibiotics.
