Yitzhak Kleftar, one of the greatest Israeli musicians of all time, passed away today (Thursday) at the age of 72. The cause of death has not yet been announced.

Clifter, one of the most senior guitar players in Israel, played in some of the most important Israeli bands ever, such as Beehive, Ahrit Yamim, Tsliv Meyman and the Churchills - which drew its name from the same nickname;

He created albums together with Eric Einstein, and was responsible for some of the greatest solo pieces in the history of Israeli music.

Among the songs identified with him are "Taking The Time", "Tilil Mi'un", "My Love Is Not His Love", "Bedouin Love Song", "Free Imagination", "I Love Chocolate" and "Idiot";

the solo parts in songs such as "Autumn Song" by Eric Lavie and "The tree is high" of the Apocalypse;

One of the greatest ever.

Yitzhak Kleftar was born in Haifa and grew up in Tel Aviv.

He built his first guitar out of planks and fishing lines when he was 13. When he was a teenager, he was assigned to give a lecture at school about Winston Churchill, and from that day the nickname stuck with him that accompanied him until the end of his days.

When he was 15 years old, he founded his first band, the Churchills, with Haim Romano, Miki Gabrielov, and others, with whom he played until he was drafted into the IDF. While in the army, he also played with the rhythm band The Styles.

After his service, he began playing in various recordings, for example in "Shir "Autumn" by Eric Lavie, and in 1971 he joined the group Ahrit Yaim, which also featured Zohar Levy, Gabi Shoshan, Eli Magen and Miri Aloni. The band's only album contains some of Clifter's most important solo pieces: "The tree is high", "There is no room For two on an electric pole", and "Open the door for me".

Clifter's next stop was in the Beehive band, and he was a partner in some of its first compositions, including "Yo Ya".

In the band's third album, "Crowded in the Ear", he also sang for the first time in "The Fool's Song".

When this also reached the end of its journey, he began to play in other settings.

He joined Yonatan Gefen's "Living Room Conversations" show, where he composed "Bedouin Love Song".

He later composed the melodious "Picture (Da Ba Da)".

In those years, Gidi Gov composed Yaakov Gilad's songs "A simple calculation" and "Let's stay."

In the album of the sixteenth lamb, the melody for the song "I love" was included.

In 1976, he participated in the recording of Eric Einstein and Yoni Rechter's album, "Love Has Many Faces", and in 1979, Shlomo Yadov and Shem Tov Levy had to create the group Tsliil Meoimyan, to which he contributed his melodies to the songs "Takes Time" and "Tsilil Meoyan".

In 1980, Clifter participated in the Singer and Chorus Festival, where he sang the song "Balila" with Yael Levy.

Clifter began studying voice development and at the end of that year he released a record with two first solo songs, "A matter of season" and "I and you then", both of which he wrote and composed.

In '81 he recorded his first album "Yitzhak", from which the hits "We met" and "My love is not his love" came out.

Clifter composed most of the songs and wrote some of them.

In 1981, Clifter recorded with Yigal Beshen the duet "We are together".

The song was included in Bashan's album "Not Alone".

For Arik Sinai's album "Heavy Shade" released that year, he wrote and composed the song "If you're around" ("My town"), which became one of Sinai's biggest hits.

Yael Levy's debut album from the same year included his compositions for the songs "Photo" and "Green Island in the Sea", originally from the show "Living Room Conversations", as well as the song "Ballad for Naive", which he composed to the words of Yonatan Gefen.

In 1982, Clifter began collaborating with Eric Einstein, when he composed all the songs for his album "Sitting on the Fence".

As is customary with Einstein's albums, Clafter received a credit alongside him on the album cover.

Among the album's hits were "Sitting on the fence", "Madness on stage" and "Yesterday was the moment".

In 1983, Clifter and Einstein released another joint album, "Fragile".

In this album, Einstein wrote all the words and Kleptor the melodies.

Among his notable songs were "Fragile", "Good Face in the Dark", "Because I'm Drunk", "One Hand Does It" and "Tel Aviv Gadot Yarkon, 1983".

Clifter participated as a guitarist in other Einstein albums such as "Pasak Zaman", "I like to be at home", "On the edge of light", "I was once a child" and "Has Bi Ahavah".

In the same year he also composed the song "Home" to the words of Leah Goldberg.

In 1984, Clifter released his second album "Heart", in which he wrote and composed all the songs.

The album was not commercially successful and did not leave any hits.

Following his failure, Clifter became depressed and considered retiring from his solo career, but a reunion show of the band "Hive" that year, which was recorded on the album "Hive - Live Performance, Summer 1984", improved his financial and emotional situation.

For Gali Atari he composed the song "End of Season", for Rivka Zohar's album he composed the song "Lea".

In 1987, Eric Sinai's album "Now" was released and it contained six songs written and composed by Clifter.

In 1988 he recorded a third solo album called "Hold on".

Despite its hits, the album failed commercially.

In the same year, Gali Atari recorded the song "Only Yesterday" to the words of Rachel Shapira and the melody of Klefter.

During the decade, Clifter recorded music for a number of Israeli films, including "Dead End Road", "Lena", and "To the End of the Night".

In the early nineties, Clifter performed the duet "Simply Love" with Haya Samir.

In 1993, a compilation album by Clifter was released called "Yitzhak, alone, holding on".

In the same year his album "Those Streets" was also released, the album also included a cover version of Hendrix's song "Little Wing".

In 1998 he participated in the Hive's reunion performance, which was recorded on the album "Hive in the Park".

In the show, Clifter sings his song "I and you then" as well as the song "If you are around".

In 2000, a tumor was discovered on Clifter's head and he needed surgery.

Beehive members organized a fundraising show for him.

The surgery was successful and Calvert returned to activity.

For Gali Atari's album "Embrace me slowly" he composed Meir Goldberg's song, "What you love", which was one of the biggest hits of the album.

In 2007 he starred in the music video for Shlomi Shaban's song "Ready for Love".

In 2008, Clifter returned to full activity.

He recorded a song with his ex-wife Red Clifter for the album "One Big Love", and released the single "People Change" from a new studio album, "Some Diplomat".

He then released the album's theme song as a single.

Most of the album's songs were written by Clifter about 13 years before its release, and it includes a performance of the song "I love" by Yonatan Gefen, which he originally composed for the album "The Thirteenth Lamb". In early 2008, he won a lifetime achievement award for a composer in the field of Hebrew singer named Naomi Shemar on behalf of AKUM. The judges' reasoning for awarding the award states, among other things: "Yitzhak Klepter is a gifted musician who only writes from the heart.

He is a creator who never chased fashions.

His melodies are very simple, original and exciting.

They are on the border of naivety and that is actually the whole magic because only through naivety can you truly penetrate into people's hearts.

Clifton's guitar sounds just like a man singing.

He is a true blues artist and his works never exhaust themselves.

At the beginning of 2009, the NMC company released a concert album by Clifter called "Free Imagination", which includes a recording of a concert held at the teacher's house in Tel Aviv in 1989. In this concert, along with songs from his solo albums, Clifter also performed songs he composed for others such as "Sitting on the fence" and " Image".

In the same year, a concert album by Kleftar was also released with Ephraim Shamir and Alon Olarchik, which recorded the joint hit "Nagasano".

A song from the album "A Little Diplomat" called "To You" was made in 2010 for the first video clip in Clifter's career, directed by David Drazi and Zafir Gelman.

Clifter, a heavy smoker, was hospitalized on February 7, 2011 at the Ichilov Hospital following complications of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

In July he was released from the hospital and began a long rehabilitation process.

In an interview with Nadav Bornstein, he said that during a period of about six months he would not be able to perform and that he was having trouble playing "like he used to". In the same year, a compilation album by Eric Einstein was released called "Sher Yitzhak Klefter", which summarizes the collaboration of the two.

The album included one original song called "Laboratories for Freedom", composed by Klafter and Guy Bukati to the words of Yaakov Rotblit, as well as Einstein's revised version of Klafter's song "Tsilil Ma'oir".

In 2013, he was a guest on the Hadg Nahsh band's album "Time to Wake Up", in the recording of the song "Yom Shishi".

In the summer months of that year, he took part in the five reunion performances of the Beehive band, at the Sultan's Pool and in Yarkon Park.

In March 2014, he re-recorded his song "Free Imagination", for the movie "Cannon Fodder" directed by Eitan Gafni.
