A collaboration that is a dream for every steering wheel enthusiast: Lockheed Martin will help the struggling British supercar manufacturer. The factory that designed the Blackbird and the F-117 will lead the relationship

It looks like an excellent script for a blockbuster, and any true car enthusiast hopes it ends up being more than these stock photos: Struggling British supercar maker McLaren has announced a technology collaboration with Lockheed Martin, maker of the H-35, Hercules, and other aircraft and defense systems.

What's more: Lockheed will lead its "skunk factory" connection in California, the nickname given to the company's advanced development center, the place where some of the most advanced fighter planes of their time were developed in the last hundred years, and probably a few more that are still secret: starting with the P38 Lightning of the World War The second, the 71-SR, the Blackbird from the Cold War era, the F-117 which was the first stealth fighter, and was also involved in the development of the more advanced F-22 and F-35.

"The collaboration will focus on the application of the design system developed by the Skunk Factory to the world of aviation, to the super performance technology of supercar design," said a statement from McLaren, which was accompanied by footage of its Artura alongside the H-117 and the Dark Star, the hypersonic aircraft piloted by Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick released to screens last year, able to fly only in the movie, but his mockup looks fit to participate in Star Wars.

The skunk factory employs some of the best aeronautics, physics, materials and electronics engineers in the world.

They also have advanced computing equipment that will allow McLaren to design a prototype at a much faster pace than it is currently capable of.

The announcement did not include financial details, how much McLaren will pay Lockheed for the service, and what exactly will come out of harnessing its busy development staff to design sports cars.

McLaren, which grew out of the Formula 1 group that bears the same name, has lost $247 million since the beginning of the year, and recently had to sell a large part of its collection of supercars and Formula 1 to the Bahrain Capital Fund for $123 million, which it needs to complete Artura.

Lockheed, on the other hand, recorded in the first three quarters of this year cumulative sales totaling $47 billion, and an operating profit of more than $6 billion.
