Ken DeLand had not given any sign of life since the very beginning of December.
The 21-year-old American student, who has been missing for several weeks, is now in Spain where he was able to talk to his parents, the Grenoble prosecutor's office announced on Friday.
“We just learned that young Kenneth DeLand was able to talk to his parents today.
He would be in Spain,” Grenoble prosecutor Eric Vaillant told the press, without providing further details.
The young man, who is studying at Grenoble-Alpes University, was supposed to leave France on December 15.
But his student buddies hadn't heard from him since November 27 and reported him missing on November 29.
The day of his disappearance, explain the American media, the young man left his home to take a train for Valence (Drôme).
The young man had been filmed for the last time on December 3 in the morning by the cameras of a Decathlon store in Montélimar, in the Drôme.
