Hyundai Kona 2023 is inspired by the Ioniq 5 and will continue to offer the combination of gasoline, hybrid and electric versions

Five years ago, the Hyundai Kona landed in Israel, and became one of the most popular Jeeps on the market: about 15,000 Kona models have been sold in Israel since 2018, when in 2022 alone, almost 4,500 units of it hit the roads.

Tonight, its successor has already been revealed, relatively quickly during the usual life for a new car of 6-8 years.

It is an evolution of the first generation, while maintaining the character of the existing model and adopting elements from the successful Ionic 5.

And this is how the new buyer will look to you in traffic (photo: Hyundai)

The dimensions have increased significantly

The new generation is larger than the current one, which implies an improvement in passenger space and in the trunk: the length grew by a significant 15 cm to 4.355 meters, the width by 2.5 cm to 1.82.5 meters and equally significant, the wheelbase was extended by 6 cm to 2.66 meters. So the Kona 2.0 is smaller than its twin, the Kia Niro-2, but almost as big as the Niro Plus.

The design is reminiscent of the outgoing model, with rims that have grown to 19 inches, a new and advanced front, and is different for each Of the three versions: Despite the growing shift to electric vehicles, the new buyer will continue to be offered a choice between gasoline, hybrid and electric versions, along with a sportier N version.

In the meantime, you can purchase the current buyer. Here's what we thought about it:

Expect the same three powertrains

Hyundai does not specify the engine data yet.

Assuming that these will again be the same as those of the Niro, it is the same 1,600 cc gasoline unit with a double-clutch robotic box with a capacity of 141 hp in the hybrid, the familiar 1,600 cc turbo gasoline 198 hp, and in the electric 204 hp, with a battery of 64.8 kWh will offer a range of about 500 km. It is not clear if there will also be a discounted 39 kWh version with a shortened range like today.

in Israel this year

The driver's environment is very similar to that of the Ioniq 5, with a pair of 12.3-inch screens, and a gear lever moved behind the steering wheel, to allow a flat floor in front and improved space.

Importer Hyundai Kalmobile said that the new buyer will arrive in Israel in the fourth quarter of this year.
