It is too early to say whether France will be out of the woods to respect its national low-carbon strategy, which aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and respect the Paris climate agreement.
Over the first nine months of 2022, France emitted a total of 306 million tonnes of greenhouse gases (expressed in CO equivalent to take into account all greenhouse gases, including methane and nitrous oxide) which corresponds to a decrease of 0.3% compared to the previous year, according to Citepa, the organization which draws up the national balance sheet.
This near-stagnation is mainly attributable to energy production and to a lesser extent to transport, where the increase slowed down (+4% over nine months), due to the increase in fuel prices.
