Closing a circle: Josie Katz among the winners of the Eric Einstein Award for veteran artists - Voila! Culture

Apart from Mechtz, another 20 artists won the award given by the Ministry of Culture, including Oshik Levy, Moises Ben Hash, Eli Magen, Yona Elian and more

Yona Elian Keshet, Oshik Levy, Moise Ben Hash and Josie Katz were announced today (Wednesday) as winners of the Eric Einstein Award for veteran artists.

Besides them, another 17 other artists were selected.



This marked an exciting closing of the circle: Katz was Einstein's partner in the "High Windows" group, and now she has won a prize named after him.

Apart from her, several other winners are related to Einstein: Eli Magen, who replaced him in the High Windows ensemble for a short period, and accompanied him as a musician;

And the composer Aryeh Lebanon, for whom Einstein sang some of his songs, such as "Lifa HaGalon".



The prize distributed by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, worth NIS 40,000, is awarded in seven fields: dance, theater, literature and poetry, artistic music, Hebrew singer, visual arts and cinema.

It was given to artists who made a "significant contribution to culture in Israel, left their mark and helped the development of culture in Israel over the years."

The full list of winners includes Avi Ganor, Danny Kerman and Tanya Preminger in the field of plastic arts;

Amnon Damati, Ilana Cohen and Malka Hajabi in the field of dance;

Yona Elian-Keshet, Shimon Israeli and Ilan Dar in the field of theater;

Aryeh Levanon, Oshik Levy and Josie Katz in the field of Hebrew singers;

Ruth Almog, Hadva Hakabi and Moises Ben Hash in the field of literature and poetry;

Eli Magen, Shush Reisman and Albert Begar in the field of artistic music;

and Itzik Lerner, Ofra Weingarten and Itzhak (Tsepel) Yeshuron in the field of cinema.



"I intend to continue to take care of our veteran artists, each and every one of whom has contributed, and is still contributing, a significant contribution to Israeli culture and the State of Israel," said the incoming Minister of Culture and Sports, Miki Zohar, "I will work to increase support for veteran artists who contribute to Israeli society."
