The punk legend John Leydon announced a few days ago that he intends to compete for representing Ireland in Eurovision together with his band PiL and now he reveals that the song he wants to compete with, "Hawaii", is dedicated to his wife Nora, who is suffering from Alzheimer's.

Many in the industry were surprised by the decision to compete for representation in Eurovision both because Leydon is not identified with the nature of Eurovision and because the song's theme is not typical for the competition.

The Eurovision Song Contest will be held in May in the city of Liverpool in Great Britain, after replacing the host Ukraine following the war with Russia.

The 66-year-old British singer and songwriter, formerly known as Johnny Rotten, is one of the most influential artists in the punk movement and who was, among other things, the vocalist of the Sex Pistols bands and, as mentioned, is still the vocalist of Public Image Limited (PiL).

In addition, he is a full-time caregiver for his 80-year-old wife Nora, a German publishing owner who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's more than four years ago.

"Hawaii" is one of six songs that will compete to represent Ireland at Eurovision, when the representative will be chosen on February 3.

During an interview he gave, Laydon looked at the lyrics (listen to the song - here above), which include the line "Remember me, I remember you" and was filled with tears.

"We spent a great vacation in Hawaii after a concert tour and it was the best week of our lives," he said of Nora, to whom he has been married for over 40 years.

"Now her memories are fading, and I wanted to give her something like that back. I'm broken even thinking about it."

Leydon added: "It's a song about the disappearance of a person I love very much, right in front of my eyes", but noted that the song "is dedicated to everyone who is going through difficult times with a person dear to them. It is also a message of hope, that in the end love conquers everything".

Laydon had success with the band Sex Pistols in the 1970s, in which he served as a vocalist from 1975 to 1978, and returned to it several times in the 1990s and the first decade of the 2000s.

Sex Pistols signed, among other things, the songs "God Save the Queen" and "Anarchy in the UK".

In addition, he serves as a vocalist in the English post-punk band Public Image Limited, which he founded in 1978.

It operated until 1992 and resumed operations in 2009.

One of her hits is the song "This Is Not A Love Song".
