Rock legend David Crosby, one of the founders of the Byrds and a member of the supergroup Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, passed away at the age of 81 - this was announced tonight (Friday).
His wife told Variety that he had suffered a long illness, adding that he was surrounded by his family members in his final moments.
Crosby, born in 1941, was a central figure in the rock of the 60s and 70s.
First as a member of the band The Byrds, in which he served as guitarist, and secondly as a member of Steven Stills and Graham Nash in the group named after them, and made his debut at the Woodstock Festival.
Later, Neil Young also joined them.
Among the band's hits signed by Crosby are "Deja Vu" and "Almost Cut My Hair".
Crosby was elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, thanks to his membership in both bands.
He went on to a long solo career, from which his debut album, "If I Could Only Remember My Name" is especially remembered.
Crosby released his last album in 2021.
