Polestar refreshes the Polestar 2 and along the way moves the car to rear-wheel drive, adds range, improves performance and more

The renewed Polestar 2 (manufacturer)

As it prepares for the introduction of its flagship Polestar 3 that should catapult it to the top of the luxury electric manufacturers market, Polestar is also making sure to continue to launch its first and only mainstream production model for now, the Polestar 2. It is using the refresh of the model to make some very significant changes to the car, Ones you don't see often.

Let's start with the external change, where the company's grill becomes an opaque panel.

which also reminds in its appearance of the front that we will meet in the Polestar 3 but on the other hand also makes it look more similar to the Volvo XC40 on whose platform it sits.

But this change is a bit more visual, as under that cover will now sit the car's new and improved radar array.

Inside the vehicle, the safety system that includes driver fatigue monitoring and wireless charging will become standard.

But these are already standards in the local equipment.

The more significant changes are under the surface, and mainly in the simpler versions when the Polestar 2 switches to rear-wheel drive instead of front-wheel drive in the single-engine versions.

The battery in the standard range versions will remain at a capacity of 69 kWh, but the other models increase from 78 to 82 kWh, and the propulsion itself will be done by a new generation of electric motors, more efficient and powerful than those in the current model.

As a result, both the range and the performance of the model are going to improve significantly.

For example, the versions of the standard range and the extended range with the only engine that offered so far 231 hp will increase to 272 hp in the standard range version and 299 hp in the extended range. The performance drops from 7.4 seconds to 100 km/h today to 6.4 seconds and 6.2 seconds respectively.

The declared range increases from 471 and 540 km to 518 and 635 km respectively.

In the version with two engines and the increased range, the power increases from 408 hp to 421 hp, the jump to 100 is shortened from 4.7 to 4.5 seconds and the range improves from 480 to 592 km. At the top of the range is the "Performance" version "which currently offers 476 horses, 4.4 seconds to 100 and 462 km of range and in the renewed model will increase to 476 hp, shorten the acceleration by 0.2 tenths to 4.2 seconds and the significantly increased range will also be 592 km here .

Currently, and according to the manufacturer's statement, these changes will apply to the 2024 models, whose entry into production should be this summer.

That is, upon reaching the roads in the last quarter of the year and beyond.

And the first priority will be for markets where there is no stock of cars at the moment and with a very high demand.

In Israel, on the other hand, the local importer has stocked early models (also in order to "reserve" the price before the tax increase) which is currently sufficient for 3 months in their estimation.

So in Israel it is not expected to see these renewed versions before 2024 at the earliest.

According to a rough estimate and the price differences in the European markets, the updated model should make the Polestar 2 NIS 30,000 to 50,000 more expensive before taking into account the changing taxation on the tram, if it does come into effect in 2024.
