Hugh Hudson, the director of the successful movie "Chariots of Fire", passed away at the age of 86 - this was announced this evening (Friday).
In a statement published by his family members, it was stated that he died after a short illness.
"Chariots of Fire" from 1981 depicted the story of two British athletes competing in the 1924 Paris Olympics: the devout Christian Eric Liddell and the Jewish Harold Abrahams.
The film, which won the Oscar for best film, and is even considered one of the greatest British films of all time, is also remembered for the iconic music written for it by the Greek composer Vanglis, who also passed away last year.
Hudson, who began his career as a commercial director before moving into cinema, directed about ten films throughout his career, but was unable to replicate the achievements of Chariots of Fire.
Among his other films: "Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan the King of the Apes" and "I dreamed of Africa".
He left behind a wife and a son.
