A leak would account for a historic change for the brand. With several months to go before the official presentation, the apple company suffered one of the biggest leaks about the iPhone 15 . With several months to go before the official presentation, the apple company suffered

one of the biggest leaks about the iPhone 15

.

The photo that recently went viral on social networks shows details of an apparent Pro version of the expected smartphone.

While the image, which was shared by user @URedditor on Twitter and released by the Techradar site, doesn't reveal a full look at Apple's next phone, it does hint at what the biggest design change might

be

.

Specifically, the device photo puts the focus on the bottom edge of the phone.

There you can see the questioned USB-C port instead of the traditional Lightning, as rumored in recent months since the restrictions imposed by the European Union.

According to the US site, the source in question also claimed that

all four iPhone 15 models will use USB-C

and that Apple plans to replace the E75 Lightning controller with an E85 port controller for the iPhone 15 series.

The photo leaked on Twitter showing an alleged iPhone 15 without the Lightning charging port.

On the other hand, the change of charging port to a universal one,

related to Android devices

, does not suggest if only Apple-approved chargers and accessories will be the only ones that will work in future devices.

While the USB-C port is the focus of this leaked image, there are other details to keep in mind as well.

For one, the phone shown appears to have a

brushed metal finish

, which is different from the current iPhone 14 series.

That could be due to the rumored switch to a titanium alloy material for the iPhone 15 Pro.

Finally, the frame looks a bit more curved around the edges than on current models.

The iPhone 15: how the USB-C port will improve

The European Union forced Apple to remove all of its Lightning ports on iPhones.

Apple's main change for its generation of smartphones is focused on its charging port.

In fact, it's expected that USB-C could enable much higher data transfer speeds than Lightning supports, as well as meaning that the USB-C cables and chargers most people already have will be compatible with their iPhones.

But none of those things are guaranteed.

Apple would have to opt to support higher transfer speeds and current leaks suggest that while the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, or iPhone 15 Ultra as it might be called, will offer higher speeds, the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus won

As for the move to USB-C which offers broader compatibility with charging cables, there may also be restrictions and limits as leakers suggest that Apple might not support all USB-C chargers and accessories.

Over the months until its final presentation in September, Apple will have room to see how much control the new European Union rules will allow over the iPhone 15. But it is possible that users will find a new port that, especially in the case of non-Pro models, bring very few updates.
