Samsung's new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S23 Ultra, emphasizes extremely advanced photography capabilities with a 200-megapixel camera that the South Korean technology giant is very proud of.
But, at least according to a test by the DxOMark website, which is considered the most recognized authority in the world of smartphone photography, the device leaves no dust for competitors and even loses to flagship smartphones that were launched more than a year ago.
In the DxOMark test, the zoom capabilities of the device are noted favorably, but these are still below the competitors - Huawei Mate 50 Pro or Honor Magic 4 Ultimate.
They also added that the still images displayed excellent detail in natural light with an excellent level of white balance.
However, the S23 Ultra ranked 11th and received a low score of just 131 points - below the iPhone 14 Pro and even below the iPhone 13 Pro, which was launched more than a year ago.
DxOMark reviewers tried to accurately simulate our everyday use of cameras, and for the sake of the test, more than 2,600 photos were taken in controlled laboratory environments - both in typical shooting scenarios (portrait, family and landscape photography) using the camera's default settings.
That is, most of the test focused on the 12 megapixel camera that is activated by default.

"Our testers expected more from the 200MP sensor of the main camera, which should, in theory, allow for excellent detail, even when using digital zoom," the test reads.
The tested device includes the Snapdragon chip system, and later another test is expected to be published that will test the camera capabilities of the device with Samsung's Exynos processor, which does not mean, of course, that the S23 Ultra does not excel in other areas.
Who else has overtaken Samsung's premium smartphone?
Google's Pixel 7 is in 10th place, with 140 points as well.
The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, launched in April 2021, is still in 9th place, with 141 points.
In first place is the Huawei Mate 50 Pro, followed immediately by Google's Pixel 7 Pro.
