The old Finnish communications giant, which will celebrate its 160th birthday in two years, presented a new logo yesterday (Sunday) as part of the cellular exhibition in Barcelona (MWC), for the first time in almost 60 years.

The company parted ways with the old blue logo that we all know, in favor of a new logo consisting of five different shapes that form the word "NOKIA".

"In most people's minds, we are still a successful mobile phone brand, but that is not what Nokia is about," said Pekka Lundmark, CEO of Nokia. "We want to launch a new brand that is very focused on networks and industrial digitalization - something completely different from traditional mobile phones."

Since 2014, alongside other divisions, Nokia has been focusing on communication equipment through the Nokia Networks company. The company deploys cellular networks, and in recent years large technology companies have collaborated with telecom equipment manufacturers such as Nokia to deploy 5G networks. The main competitor of the Finnish communications giant is the Swedish

Ericsson

As you may remember, at the height of its glory days, somewhere in the early 2000s, Nokia's mobile division commanded more than 40 percent of the global mobile market, until Steve Jobs introduced the first iPhone in 2007.

Later, a series of mistakes and cooperation with Microsoft led to the rapid downfall.

So is this the end of a logo that so many people know and love?

Not necessarily.

Many may not remember, but Nokia's phone business has not been part of the company since Microsoft bought Nokia's mobile division in 2014.

Later, in May 2016, Nokia Mobile was sold to HMD Global, a company made up of ex-Nokia executives, which makes use of the Nokia brand for smartphones and tablets - including the old logo we all know.

Meanwhile, it is unclear whether HMD Global will continue to use the old logo.
