Even in an era of political and economic uncertainty, Israelis continue to purchase new cars.

29,132 new cars were delivered in Israel in February, and since the beginning of the year there are already 76,328 cars, a jump of 22.6%.

This is according to data from the Automobile Importers Association.

This is already the second month in a row that China ranks first in the list of countries from which new cars arrive in Israel.

Thus, in the first two months of 2023, 12,831 cars produced in China were delivered in Israel, compared to 12,774 produced in South Korea and 11,212 produced in Japan.

Is this the end of the Israelis' romance with Korean and Japanese women?

Not yet, because the Chinese car manufacturers still only produce in China, unlike the Koreans and Japanese who also produce in other countries, and in the aggregate they sold more cars than the Chinese manufacturers.

Hyundai (12,823 deliveries) leads the market, ahead of Kia (8,198), Mazda (6,284) and Toyota (5,175), but China's BYD is in fifth place (4,589), and China's Chery (3,044) is in eighth place.

And so among the ten best-selling manufacturers in Israel this year, there are two Chinese manufacturers, who started selling here only in the last quarter of 2022.

Among the ten best-selling models in Israel this year, there are three Chinese, including two in the top three.

BYD Auto 3 delivered 4,102 cars, ahead of Mazda 2 (3,216), China's Geely Geometry C as well (2,200), Hyundai Tucson (2,124), Hyundai i20 (with 2,027), Hyundai i10 (with 1,900), Chery Tigo 8 Chinese (1,782), Kia Niro (1,651), Toyota Yaris Cross (1,576) and Hyundai Elantra (1,538).

Among the ten best-selling cars there are two fully electric (Eto 3 and Geometric C), one that is sold mainly in a plug-in version, alongside a hybrid and electric (Kia Niro), one that is sold mainly as a hybrid and a little gasoline (Yaris Cross) and one that is completely hybrid (Elantra).

A total of 10,900 electric cars were delivered in the first two months of this year, climbing to a market share of 14.3%.

That rate is expected to jump this month with the arrival of a large Tesla shipment, the first since its price cut.

In the luxury market, Mercedes continues to lead, with 1,671 cars, ahead of Audi (1,113) and BMW (775).
