The cast members of the musical Rent ("RENT") of the Enav Center decided to cancel the show tonight against the background of the coup d'état and to come to protest.

One of the actors of the show wrote on his Facebook page: "Our moral and national duty is to cancel right now in order to secure the future of theater and culture in Israel. We decided to pay a heavy price and cancel the show in order to go and demonstrate for democracy. We decided to cancel with sorrow. With pain. With tears."

"Rent", a local adaptation of one of the successful Broadway musicals, is based on Puccini's opera "La Boheme" and deals with a group of young people who try to survive, create and love against the backdrop of a raging epidemic and a housing crisis in an expensive city.

The Israeli adaptation premiered in June 2022 at the Enav and Boim Center by Avishai Ben Gal and Shahar Peretz.

One of the reviews of the play, written by Nano Shabtai, appeared under the title "What's the point of a protest play without minimal reference to the here and now?".

How the repertory theaters as cultural institutions have not yet responded.

How do you hold shows on Saturday evening alongside the demonstrations.

You must not give up culture.

Right.

Not in war, not in an emergency.

Just not allowed.

We must continue to hold the show, of course.

But what is happening here, in our beloved country, is a coup d'état.

point".

"Our moral and national duty is to cancel right now in order to ensure the future of theater and culture in Israel, when in front of our eyes the censors are standing and just waiting to pass laws that will allow them to erase our freedom and our art. On Saturday, we, the cast of 'Rent' that is performing at the Enav Center, decided to pay It is a heavy price to cancel the show in order to go and demonstrate for democracy. We decided to cancel with sorrow. With pain. With tears. I want to read a map to the Sharm El Sheikh, to the repertory theaters, to all the actors, creators, and stage workers to join us.

In order for us to ensure the future of the theater we must stop this madness.

before it's too late.

Go out and demonstrate.

If we don't become citizens, they will make us subjects.

Shabbat in Kaplan."

The Enav Center responded: "Without creators and performers, there is no creativity and culture.

Without artistic freedom, there is no art.

The Enav Center, a home for creation and creators, respects the right and desire of the actors of the production to participate in the demonstration.
