Astronomers have documented round and perfectly shaped sand dunes on the surface of Mars.
Although dunes on the Red Planet are not a rare sight in themselves, and come in a variety of forms - perfect dunes in their form are indeed a rare sight.
The almost perfect circles indicate that the dunes face south with the migration of the sands in the Martian winds.
The University of Arizona, which operates the HiRise camera, stated in its announcement that the image was taken as part of a series of images taken by the camera that is part of the MRO satellite spacecraft orbiting the Red Planet, and was taken on November 22.

The spectacular images of the rounded dunes were taken from an altitude of about 300 kilometers above the surface of the planet, with each pixel in the image equivalent to 25 cm on the surface of Mars. The spectacular dunes are one of 60 sites on the surface of Mars that HiRise has been documenting since - MRO reached orbit around Mars in 2006. MRO's official mission ended back in 2010, but even 12 years later, the research spacecraft is still serving science. Repeated
collection of observations of the Martian sand dunes allows scientists to track their movement. The scientists They discovered thanks to the observations that the sand dunes move from the equator towards the poles at a speed of one meter in one Martian year (687 our days).
