The Torres EVX will be produced in front- and dual-wheel drive versions, and will retain the tough design of the gasoline version. May be the cheapest electric 4x4 on the market

A new entrant to the expanding electric recreational vehicle market: Korea's Ssangyong has revealed first images of the EVX Tourer, the emission-free version of its new Jeep.

The Torres was unveiled in a petrol version last year.

Its dimensions, 4.70 meters long, 1.89 meters wide and 1.72 meters high, place it in the manufacturer's range between the Corona and the Rexton.

Its wheelbase is 2.68 meters long and the trunk has a relatively large volume of 703 liters.

In the same version, it is offered with a 1,500 cc (170 hp) turbo-gasoline engine, front or dual wheel drive and an option for an automatic transmission in both.

At the end of the month, its electric model will be revealed at the Seoul Mobility Show, and in the meantime, Ssangyong has released the first images, which reveal a new front for the green version, but a design that maintains the same "tough" characteristics of the original.

The driver's environment received two large display screens, like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, one is used for multimedia and system operation and the other as a dashboard.

The manufacturer has not revealed technical details yet, but according to publications in South Korea, even in this version, it will be offered with a choice between front and double wheel drive.

It is not yet clear whether it will be equipped with the propulsion system of the electric Korando, a 190 hp engine and a 55 kWh battery, or an enlarged version of it, being larger and heavier than the Korando.

The latter offers in the same version an official combined range of only 340 km, and with the same drive system in the Torres, the range will be even shorter. On the other hand, it is not clear whether the little Ssangyong, which has been struggling with financial difficulties in recent years, has the ability to develop a different version for it.

It is not yet clear which version Telecar, the Ssangyong importer, will choose to offer in the country.

The dual drive version may stand out in the offer of electric recreational vehicles in Israel.

Today, the bZ4X draft offers the cheapest option that allows descent into easy terrain, but for NIS 260,000.

Mercedes offers the electric EQB with dual drive for NIS 400,000, and Tesla the Model X, whose price starts at about NIS 600,000.

In Israel, the Tour EVX will fit in size between the BYD Auto 3 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5, and its estimated price is expected to be around NIS 200,000.

Last year, the Korean KG Corporation acquired control of Ssangyong, which had reached insolvency after the abandonment of its previous owners, India's Mahinda.

In 2022, the company produced 114,000 cars, an increase of 35%, and reduced its net loss by 75% to $46 million.

40% of its production is intended for export.
