Jeep is updating the Wrangler, is it worth it? - Walla! vehicle

The redesigned Jeep Wrangler gets a controversial grille and increases the range of off-road driving systems. The interesting news: the plug-in version is discounted

"The grill is smaller, the multimedia screen is bigger", this is one sentence that sums up the Jeep Wrangler's facelift, but not only it, but also the direction in which an entire industry is going.

But as long as it's a Jeep and certainly a Wrangler, any change in the grill, even a small one, is a real story.

This facelift comes about 5 years after the introduction of the model, when in the meantime he entered the arena that was his exclusive Ford Bronco and Jeep realizes that relying on heritage, reputation and sentiment will no longer guarantee them cash flow as they were used to.

This is not a revolutionary facelift, but rather a series of polishes and an answer to criticisms against the model, such as is used in the car industry when a model reaches the middle of its life cycle.

The main external changes are the reduction of the 7-slot grill when these become shorter and squarer and now come in a black frame and not in body color (except in the "Sahara" finish level).

Jeep claims better cooling of the engine and that they are more suitable for meeting with the integral winch that is offered in the Rubicon versions.

The antenna has disappeared in favor of one that is embedded in the windshield due to its tendency to tear when passing through bushes and branches.

In the passenger cabin, the main news is the increase of the touch screen from 7 or 8.4 inches so far depending on the trim level to 12.3 inches.

As before, it will offer connectivity to Apple and Android devices, this time also wirelessly.

Its location also leads them to replace the round air conditioning outlet openings with flat ones.

Jeep is also aligning with the year 2023 and will allow electric adjustment for the seats, but only in the high trim levels.

More in the statements: improving the quality of the materials and noise isolation - all these were very serious weak points of the model.

Another serious weak point of the vehicle was the level of safety.

Certainly in light of the disgraceful safety score he received in the European crash test.

From now on, the Wrangler will be offered with advanced safety systems such as distance warning and adaptive cruise control, cross traffic warning when driving backwards and a vehicle in a "dead zone" as well as two additional airbags for a total of 6 airbags.

However, apart from the airbags that will come as standard, the new active systems will not be offered at the base level, only more expensive ones.

The facelift adds another version of the Rubicon called the Rubicon X, which takes the initially extreme off-road capabilities a few more clicks up.

But a moment before, let's start with the Rubicon changes that include a Dana 44HD rear axle, this time of the "Full Float" type, in short - instead of a flange connected to the end of the axle and on it the wheel bolts in normal axles, here the axle continues beyond the line of the wheel bolts and allows for a more internal location of the flange, therefore handling Better with side loads and weights, room for more wheel bearings and more.

WARN 8,000 lb winch and more.

The Rubicon X also adds a transmission with a reduced ratio for technical crawling, a camera that gives a glimpse of what's going on under the body, 35-inch tires, and more.

Even off-road legends are not exempt from the need to comply with the ecological fashion edict, so as part of a move to transfer half of its models to electrified drive by 2030, Jeep is expanding the range of versions of the 4Xe Wrangler with plug-in drive to a discounted entry version in the cheaper "Sport S" trim level.

The model that has arrived so far in the Rubicon trim level may be one of the most attractive in its offering.

The price of the sport versions at the importer in Israel, Semlat, is currently NIS 290,000 for the short and NIS 320,000 for the long, while the Rubicons start at NIS 420.

A gap of 100 thousand shekels compared to the 4Xe version which currently only comes in a parallel import for about 490 thousand shekels may be a very attractive proposition for those who want a little green under the mud of their Wrangler.

Currently, the arrival of the renewed Wrangler in Israel is expected to be in the first half of 2024.
