We live in an era of inflation of payment apps like Bit and Paybox, and now a particularly significant player is joining the field.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO and founder of Meta (Facebook), announced today (Tuesday) that WhatsApp will allow

users in Brazil

to pay local businesses - within the app.

"The simple and secure payment experience will change the rules of the game for people and small businesses who want to buy and sell on WhatsApp without having to log in to a website, open another app or pay in person.

We are launching the feature today to a small number of businesses, and will be available to all users in the coming months," the company said in a statement.

Until now, users in Brazil transfer money to each other using WhatsApp Pay, and due to regulatory restrictions, Meta has not been able to activate the payment option in businesses.

Now, after three years of regulatory review, out of fear of harming the competition, the new feature is available to everyone.

In 2020, WhatsApp announced that more than 5 million businesses in Brazil use WhatsApp.

In recent years, people in Brazil have rapidly adopted digital payments.

Figures indicate that last year, more than 124 million people used Pix - an instant payment platform run by the country's central bank.
