Updated design, new technologies and a range of more efficient and ecological engines, there are many new features on the new Mercedes-Benz GLC.

The SUV from the Star, now in its second generation, has successfully inherited the legacy of the GLK and, since 2015, more than 2.6 million units have been sold worldwide.

Available exclusively with hybrid power units, in the 48-volt plug-in or mild hybrid variants, it features a range of four-cylinder engines taken from the current family of Mercedes-Benz modular units called FAME (Family of Modular Engines).

The plug-in hybrid models offer a range of over 100 kilometers on the WLTP circuit.

The protagonist of the Ansa Motori test was the GLC 220d powered by the 197 HP turbodiesel engine and 400 Nm of torque, supported by the 48 Volt mild-hybrid system, always in combination with the 4Matic all-wheel drive, and the 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic transmission .

Aesthetically, the high-wheeled Mercedes proposal for the C segment presents, among the highlights that characterize its design, the new front with headlights that connect directly to the radiator grille and accentuate its width, and the new chromed bumper protection that underlines the off-road character.

The length, 6 cm longer than the previous model, reaches over 4.70 meters and, even if the proportions are the same, the front track has grown by 6 mm and the rear by 23 mm, the overall height has become slightly lower, while the width does not change, which remains 1,890 mm.

The measures affect the internal habitability with more space for passengers and luggage, thanks to the load compartment which now reaches 600 litres.

The passenger compartment incorporates the stylistic features of the C class, and features a high-resolution LCD screen, placed in front of the driver, measuring 12.3 inches (31.2 cm).

In the central part of the dashboard, the fully touch screen display stands out with a screen diagonal of 11.9 inches (30.2 centimetres).

Equipped with the second generation of the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system, the GLC is even more digital: in fact, the voice assistant, invoked by the phrase "Hey Mercedes", is now able to converse and learn more information thanks to the activation of online services from the Mercedes me App and to recognize the voice of the passengers.

Furthermore, some functions, such as answering a call, can be activated even without saying the fateful "Hey Mercedes".

The test drive car, equipped with the off-road package, also features Airmatic adaptive pneumatic suspension, rear axle steering, and a 360° perimeter display system.

With all these technical features, the road holding proved to be secure, and the dynamics engaging in the stretches full of curves.

Consumption is low, with an average, in the mixed cycle, of about 17-18 km/l, obtained with the help of the electric compartment.

Strengthened by the 4matic all-wheel drive, the new GLC is at ease both on paved roads and off-road, where the plug-in variants can travel electric with zero impact.

Furthermore, through the dedicated screen and the "transparent bonnet" function, in the most difficult passages the GLC allows you to see even under the

car to avoid any obstacles.

In city driving, rear axle steering enhances agility, while on the motorway it increases stability.

In short, a lot of technology at the service of the driver, who can count on advanced gear assistance systems, such as automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, and cornering assistance .

Among other things, the GLC is able to automatically maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front, autonomously carrying out emergency braking in the event of danger.

There are 6 trim levels, called Advanced, Amg Advanced, Advanced Plus, Amg Advanced Plus, Amg Premium and Amg Premium Plus;

while prices, for the Italian market, start at 64,578 euros for the GLC 200 4Matic Mild Hybrid in the Advanced version.
