Literary researcher Prof. Dan Laur passed away at the age of 79. Laur held a long series of academic and public positions and became famous mainly for his research on the writers S. Y. Agnon and Natan Alterman. Laur was born in
Jerusalem in 1944 as Dan Laufer. In the years 1965-1975 he studied Hebrew literature, English literature and comparative literature at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the University of California at Berkeley, where he received a doctorate. He taught at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the University of California and Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, and from 1979 he taught at Tel Aviv University. In the years 1996-2000 he served as the head of the department of Hebrew literature at this university and in the years 2000-2004 as dean Faculty of Humanities
The highlight of his work in the study of literature is the biography of SH Agnon, "Hay Agnon" (1998).
In 2013, the biography he wrote about Alterman was published, which is considered the most comprehensive study of the poet's life.
Between 2015-2020, Laor served as the head of the Jewish Heritage Center
Film director Yair Keder paid tribute to him: "Dan Laor, my legendary teacher, an unusually wise man.
