The Israel Internet Association presented today (Sunday) the "Israel Internet Index," which comprehensively maps Israelis' media consumption preferences and internet usage habits. The index summarizes internet usage during 2022 and includes a comprehensive survey from the beginning of 2023 carried out by the "Brain Reservoir" institute.

YouTube and WhatsApp at the top - TikTok is gaining momentum

In the social networking arena, YouTube, WhatsApp and Facebook maintain dominance, with over 90% of the Israeli public using each.

The one approaching them by leaps and bounds is TikTok. At the beginning of 2023, about half of the Israeli public has already testified to its use, after only 30% of the surfing public testified to it last year.

Also at the top of the table is Instagram with 70% of users who use it Telegram with 54%, and Twitter with 35%. Business social network LinkedIn followed with 30%, Pinterest with 28%, Snapchat with 25%, Reddit 16%, secure messaging network Signal, and Discord with 15%.

60 percent of Israelis use Netflix

The data also show that most of the Israeli public uses various internet streaming services.

60% use Netflix, 10% use Disney+, 5% use Apple TV, 3% use Amazon Premium and just 1% use Discovery Plus.

In music services, Spotify leads with 35%, followed by Apple Music with 8%. Deezer with only 1%.

Among Internet TV content providers: HOT leads with 20%, followed by yes with 14%, Partner and Cellcom with 11% each.

The ISP market in Israel is mostly dominated by the four largest communications groups, Bezeq-Pelephone controls the largest market volume: about 28% (landline + cellular), followed by Partner with 23%, Cellcom with 19%, HOT with 14%.

Internet infrastructure in Israel

In the field of Internet infrastructure, it was found that about 35% of Israeli households consume Internet via fiber optics, and the rest through outdated DSL technology (27%) and cable (about 21%).

On teens' online usage habits, the report found that 49% of teens spend more than 4 hours a day in front of a screen. A third of teens reported that their screen time even exceeds 6 hours a day. Their most consumed content is music and movies (70% responded that this is their main activity online). The second main activity is on social networks (58%).

The most important network for teens is Instagram, with 41% of respondents not giving it up. In addition, about half of the teens reported that their parents do not talk to them at all or rarely about the dangers inherent in the Internet.

The Israel Internet Association also said that at the beginning of 2023, more than 283 domain names were registered with the .il suffix.

Yoram Hacohen, CEO of the Israel Internet Association, said in response to the report, "We can see clearly the rapid increase that has occurred over the past year in the consumption of various video content among Israelis, whether in the use of TikTok or in the consumption of series on Netflix. In general, the network has become the main source of media and leisure consumption – television, series and music."
