Since the beginning of the year, about 26,18 Hyundai cars, almost 500,2023 Kia models and about 150 Genesis models have taken to Israel's roads. With total deliveries in the first five months of <> standing at <>,<> cars, that means one in three new cars in the country are made by the Korean Automobile Group.

But the Hyundai Group not only sells a lot of cars here, it also invests and cooperates with local autotech companies. The capabilities they are currently developing are the ones we will encounter in Hyundai, Kia and Genesis models in the coming years. Last week, Dr. Hong-so Kim, the group's senior vice president and general chief strategy officer, signed an agreement with the Israel Innovation Authority to co-fund startups. On the part of the Authority, the agreement was signed by Dr. Amiram Appelbaum, Chairman of the Innovation Authority.

"Hyundai Motor Group has achieved tangible results through decade-long collaborations with Israeli companies, while fostering innovative projects," said Dr. Kim in a speech at Ecomotion 203. "Going forward, we are committed to promoting open innovation and forging even closer partnerships to jointly develop our future technologies."

Hyundai's innovation center in Israel, together with Quantum Hub, the innovation arm of the Tavira-Livnat Group, and Telcar, Kia's importers to Israel, presented at the conference several results of the group's previous investments and collaborations in Israel, such as Apollo Power's flexible solar descent. The company also invested in Israel's Autotalks, the future manufacturer of V2X communications chips for communication between vehicles, which was sold this month to Qualcomm in the United States for about $400 million.

"The innovation center in Israel, Hyundai CRADLE, is looking for start-ups and breakthrough technologies for the automotive world, in the fields of mobility, vehicle electrification, autonomous vehicles, software-based vehicles and cyber," says Yariv Hammer, Director of the Innovation Center, "and we enable the various business units of Hyundai Motor Groups to conduct the experiments in Israel in order to bring local technologies into the Hyundai Motor Group."

Walla learned of four other local companies that have already begun demonstration projects with Hyundai. If successful, they are likely to be incorporated into the next models of the Group's brands.

Maradin: Developed a laser-based head-up driver display system, giving it a sharper, more colorful and more detailed display than existing systems that are now entering more and more cars. Head-up display systems, which came to the automotive world from fighter jets, present drivers with detailed speed information and navigation instructions on the windshield right in front of their eyes, without having to take their eyes off the road to find the information on the dashboard.

Inferris: Developed a technology that provides the driver with information from the vehicle book through an electronic image and the use of artificial intelligence. No more annoying flipping through a printed car book or PDF, but quick and accurate answers to voice questions.

Kardom: Develops voice recognition technology, through which a driver or passenger can control vehicle systems even in noisy environments. The company is already selling these capabilities to F-16 and F-35 aircraft maker Lockheed Martin for their pilots.

Solcold: A specially designed paint that uses solar energy to cool the vehicle instead of heating it.
