Seriman D., a 44-year-old delivery man from La Poste, was sentenced on Wednesday by the Val-de-Marne Assize Court in Créteil to 17 years in prison for three rapes, including one committed on a minor, and an attempted rape. This father of a family from Champigny, who saw himself as a "seducer", will also have to submit to a socio-judicial follow-up for ten years.
The attorney general had requested the maximum, 20 years. According to the prosecution, the accused's denials that all sexual intercourse was consensual were further violence for the victims. The latter, who did not know each other, were mainly women or even teenagers in difficulty. Seriman D., driving his BMW, approached them in the street. He managed to convince them to get into his vehicle, offering them money or a free ride.
An expertise to determine the trauma of two victims
For this unfaithful husband, it was flirting and women fell under his spell. For justice, it was rape. Seven victims had been interviewed by the police during the investigation. The investigating chamber, after a request from Me Julie Sillet the lawyer of Seriman D., had dismissed two victims, considering that the facts were not characterized.
During the hearings, which took place in camera, the Advocate General did not find the accused guilty of another civil party. The accused, with very little empathy, was not able to understand the refusal of the woman with whom he was. "Our client benefited from a partial acquittal for her," says Julie Sillet and Maéva Israël, the two defense lawyers. But the sentence imposed on him is far too heavy. Two of the victims will also receive €20,000 each in compensation for their damage. The other two will first be appraised before a civil interest hearing next November.
