A railway drama played out this Saturday in the Tarn-et-Garonne. An octogenarian died after being hit by a train at Lamagistère station, near Montauban, around 14:45 p.m. The victim died instantly, according to France Bleu Occitanie, which reports the facts. The train was travelling towards Toulouse from Paris and was not to stop at Lamagistère.
The circumstances of the tragedy remain unclear but the track of suicide seems for the moment ruled out, the octogenarian has not thrown himself on track. According to the first elements of the investigation, the victim was crossing the track when the train appeared. The collision could not be avoided despite emergency braking of the train. None of the 385 passengers were injured in the crash.
The train was only able to leave around 18:10 p.m., more than three hours after the accident, once various checks were carried out by SNCF agents. The gendarmes also intervened on the spot to make the first findings essential to the investigation, reports France Bleu.
