With the e-skate from Brennero to Santa Maria di Leuca

From Brennero to Santa Maria di Leuca, from the Italian-Austrian border to the tip of the heel of the boot standing on an electric skateboard. This is the new venture from the Guinness Book of Records of Stefano Rotella from Bolzano. The 36-year-old is in fact traveling with his e-skate to travel the 1,430 kilometers that separate the two extreme points of Italy.
Hair cut to zero and an all black look: Stefano, for Stebo friends, has the DNA of a skater. In his professional life he is a technical designer, he spends his holidays on his beloved board. In 2021 he went from Trento to Budapest, covering 1,377 and establishing two records: that of distance and that of states crossed. To complete the task, the young man had implemented his skateboard with an electric conversion kit that had guaranteed him greater autonomy. After 13 days of travel along the cycle paths in Italy, Austria and Hungary, Rotella arrived in Budapest. His feat also aroused the interest of the national media. In March 2022 Guiness formally formalized the two records, which to this day are both still in his hands.
Now he is on his way to break his distance record.
Stebo has now arrived in Pescara, but there were difficulties in the first stretch of his long journey, such as the torrential rain in the Po plain. "With nylon I protected the skate from water, but to change the batteries I had to proceed practically laparoscopically", says the Bolzano rider laughing. Rain and cold have already been his traveling companions even during his first record. By now Stefano has become accustomed, fortunately, because even for the next few days the forecasts are not excellent. However, even the heat is not easy to bear by standing every day for hours and hours on the skate wearing protectors and carrying the backpack with the indispensable on the shoulder. When it gets dark a spotlight on the helmet illuminates the road.
Rotella will leave on the first of June, and hopes to arrive in Santa Maria di Leuca after about 14 days. Unfortunately, however, the batteries, already used for the record feat of 2021, no longer have the same autonomy and the stages must be recalculated, he explains. When Stebo arrives in Santa Maria di Leuca and overlooks the sea from the famous square, he will have traveled about 1,430 kilometers, so he will have set a new Guinness record for longest travel and also for the longest trip in a single state.
