A breakthrough in the field of brain-computer interface: the businessman and owner of Tesla and Space X, Elon Musk, announced tonight (Tuesday) in a post on X (Twitter) that the brain chip developed by his startup Neuralink was implanted on Sunday for the first time In a person who recovers well from the medical procedure.
According to Musk, the results show a promising detection of a neural impulse." These are cells in the brain that use electrical and chemical signals to send information throughout the brain and also to the body. This study, known as the "Prime Study", is an experiment for a wireless brain-computer interface developed by Neuralink, and tests the safety of the implant and the robot performing the surgery.
The research will test the functionality of the interface, which allows people with paralysis of all four limbs to control the devices using only their thoughts. The Neuralink company has not yet responded to a request for more details.
