A new zone with a speed limit of 30 km per hour is arriving on the outskirts of Rome, one of the first of the 70 that the Campidoglio plans to establish in the capital.

It was inaugurated in Casal Monastero, a neighborhood in the north-eastern quadrant, outside the Grande Raccordo Anulare, by Mayor Roberto Gualtieri together with the Mobility Councilor Eugenio Patanè and the President of the IV Municipality Massimiliano Umberti.

The "Zona30" was established in via Ratto delle Sabine, the central road axis of Casal Monastero which has been redeveloped: the central part of the road in front of a school and a church, previously used for parking, has been transformed into an area open, with benches and meeting spaces;

the new vertical and horizontal signs indicate the speed limit at 30 per hour.

    "We are here - said Patanè - to inaugurate an environmental island, a zone 30. In Rome we have hypothesized about 70, areas where walking and cycling will be possible, and where it will also be possible to go mixed".

    "I am very happy to see and show how urban space can change for the better even with 'light' interventions - stated Gualtieri - It can change safety and the relationship with the space we live in. It is one of the 30 areas that we want to spread throughout the city, but it is not just a place to reduce speed but a recovery of space, with greenery. The reduction of speed makes the road more accessible. This neighborhood is very important for us, we are carrying out many interventions: beyond the GRA we are intervening as a priority because it is an area of the city which has been somewhat abandoned. For us, doing this and other interventions is taking a step forward. Not just plugging the holes, because Rome must not only be fixed but transformed".
