A YouTuber takes the ultimate road trip test with Tesla's futuristic Cybertruck.

But there are hurdles.

Charging stations prove to be a tricky obstacle.

In November 2023, Tesla began delivering the first Cybertrucks, a few years late.

Shortly before the turn of the year, YouTuber Dennis Wang also got his vehicle and took the opportunity for a road trip from Austin, Texas to Joshua Tree National Park.

He used the 27-hour drive across the USA to put the electric pick-up through its paces.

As Wang told

Business Insider

, he enjoyed the road trip he took with a friend.

This revealed some problems, such as difficulty charging.

YouTuber goes on a road trip with Cybertruck: 12 charging stops over 1,340 miles

“You had to back up as far as possible to the stop to reach the cable, and sometimes the cable was barely long enough to fit into the car,” the YouTuber explained.

Since he had to stop 12 times to load the Cybertruck, he had plenty of opportunities to practice this.

Similar to a test by Out of Specs, the range of the electric pick-up did not convince Wang either.

During the 1,340 mile (2,157 km) journey, the duo stopped 12 times, which equates to just over 110 miles (177 km) of range between charges.

They had to go to a supercharger about every one to two hours.

However, the battery was never fully charged.

In addition, electric cars lose up to 30 percent of their range in winter anyway.

The fact that Wang wasn't exactly traveling slowly helped.

The vehicle doesn't perform well in the snow either.

Wang is enthusiastic about the Cybertruck: despite its short range and technical problems

Another issue Wang faced was the Tesla Cybertruck's infotainment system.

After about twelve hours, the screen went black,

reports.

Although the display responded to touch, certain functions had to be controlled via the app.

After the car sat for a few hours the problem disappeared.

Despite everything, he is very happy with the Cybertruck.

“It’s a fantastic truck,” Wang said.

“The interior and the quality of workmanship are definitely among Tesla’s best.” The YouTuber is also impressed when it comes to comfort after the 27-hour drive.

“I’m really excited to see what future Teslas will look like,” emphasizes Wang.

However, the electric pick-up will probably not be available in Europe for various reasons.
