She was under the protection of child welfare (ASE), a service of the department.

But she had been placed in a hotel in Aubière, near Clermont-Ferrand (Puy-de-Dôme).

A 15-year-old girl was found dead last weekend, reports France Bleu, supported by the anger of LFI MP Marianne Maximi who opened up about it in committee.

Alarmed by worrying messages posted on social networks, the teenager's boyfriend, who no longer gave any news, raised the alarm.

And that's how the young woman was found hanged in a hotel on the outskirts of the Puy-de-Dôme prefecture.

Justice has opened an investigation into the causes of death.

The Department in charge of child protection has set up a psychological unit, indicates France Bleu.

Due to a lack of resources and places in departmental structures, minors placed under the protection of the ASE are regularly accommodated in hotel establishments.

A report from the Senate Social Affairs Committee estimated that at the end of 2019, around 5% of young people in state care were sleeping in hotels, or between 7,500 and 10,500 minors.

But, “these overall figures, however, hid a great variability: the departments resorted to hotels for a proportion of minors varying from 1% to 18%,” laments the report.

Since February 7, 2022, a law relating to child protection and which was to come into force on February 1, prohibits these placements.

Except that “this measure was never implemented.

The implementing decree never appeared,” regrets the LFI MP for Puy-de-Dôme, Marianne Maximi, who calls on the government and says she is “angry”: “Another minor has died while she was protected.
