During an official ceremony dated January 30, 2024, attended by Péter Szijjártó, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, László Botka, Mayor of Szeged, Wang Chuanfu, President and Chairman of BYD, and He Zhiqi, Senior Vice President of BYD and coo of BYD Auto, the preliminary supply and sales contract was signed.


    The future plant, which will have the distinction of being the first passenger car manufacturing plant opened in Europe by a Chinese automotive company, will be built in several phases, and the factory will be operational within three years.

As a result, it will create thousands of jobs, contributing to the development of the local economy and its related activities.

Furthermore, BYD is already present in Hungary with an eBus production plant located in Komarom since 2016.


    The new production site, therefore, is part of the strategy that has led the Chinese manufacturer, starting from the Paris 2022 motor show, to to open 250 sales points in 19 European countries and to launch six new models in the Old Continent, to which, in 2024, another two will be added.
