This escape probably left the courtroom stunned.
Barely sentenced this Thursday to a prison sentence, this 20-year-old defendant did not wait to be handcuffed and taken away by the police, he broke the window of the defendant's box and fled of the Nîmes criminal court (Gard), the public prosecutor Cécile Gensac informed us this Thursday.
Tried in immediate appearance for traffic offenses, the young man had just been sentenced with a committal warrant, that is to say that the judges ordered his immediate placement in detention.
But, “he managed to break the window of the defendant’s box to escape outside the court”.

Very quickly after this lightning escape, the young man was arrested a few steps from the court, as reported in a video posted on X by a journalist from Midi Libre.
The images show a young man with peroxide hair being firmly restrained by five members of the police.
Near the scene, which takes place along the Nîmes arenas, located a few meters from the court, a woman, probably one of the detainee's relatives, screams at the agents not to harm him.

“He was subsequently caught and arrested about a hundred meters away by the police,” confirms the Nîmes prosecutor’s office.
“I don’t want to go to prison, I don’t want to go to prison,” the young man repeats.
“Calm down, calm down!”
» respond the police officers who try to control him by keeping him on the ground by force.
Having just been convicted, he was immediately placed in police custody for escape and damage to public property.
