Ford has already launched the Mustang as an electric SUV.
The Opel Manta should also celebrate a comeback as an electric car.
But Stellantis has other plans.
There are cars that are simply cult.
This also includes the Opel Manta, which rolled off the assembly line between 1970 and 1988.
The sports coupé even got its own film in 1991, “Manta, Manta”.
The sequel was released in cinemas in 2023 and became a box office hit.
And the Opel Manta itself was supposed to make a comeback, but that now seems to be off the table.

The Manta's comeback is probably off the table: Opel should remain pragmatic
The plan was to bring an electric coupe SUV onto the market in 2025 under the name, similar to the Ford Mustang Mach-e.
However, nothing will come of this, as the French trade journal
L'Automobile
writes, citing internal decision-makers.
Opel’s offer must “remain pragmatic and focus on a classic genetic list range”.
The Experimental concept vehicle should have served as a model for the new Manta.
According to the report at the IAA Mobility, the study had to “take a lot of beating”.
As a result, the project has now been frozen and a comeback of the Manta as an electric car is therefore very unlikely.

There should also be no successor to the Opel Insignia.
The situation is different for the models DS8 (2024) and DS7 (2025) as well as the Lancia Gamma (2026).
The Manta's technical siblings are to be built in Mefti.
The Rüsselsheimer should also roll off the assembly line there.

But the work of the Opel designers was not entirely in vain.
The further development of the Vizor of the radiator grille with transparency and 3D effect is adopted for the new Grandland.
The same applies to the rear with a fine red Opel lettering in the middle of a light strip.
