Most flying cars don't go beyond concept status.
However, a Chinese company has already announced a date for the start of deliveries.
There is one thing that most drivers have probably dreamed of in traffic jams: How nice would it be if their own car could simply take off and float over the avalanche of metal?
There are always attempts to develop flying cars - for example from a Slovakian company with the Air Car - but there are many hurdles: on the one hand, of a technical and regulatory nature.
And not every aircraft on wheels is actually designed to take off - as the multi-million dollar limo jet shows.
Now the Chinese company XPeng Aeroht is also trying its hand at flying cars – with two different concepts.
One of them is apparently ready for series production.

Evtol flying car: Rotor arms extend at the push of a button
eEVTOL (“Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing aircraft”) is the name of the first model that the Chinese developed.
In terms of shape, it looks a bit like a rounded Cybertruck that has been trimmed and ground to suit a sports car - the elongated “rear section” in particular is similar to Tesla’s US electric car.
And this is exactly where the car hides its “secret”: at the push of a button, the rear opens and four arms extend, to which a total of six rotor blades are attached.
As video animations show, the vehicle will then take off like a drone.

Safety: In an emergency, a parachute system is designed to save passengers
Even if two of the six rotors fail, the eEVTOL should still be able to fly safely - and therefore comply with the strict safety regulations of civil aviation.
If the engine stops working completely, a system with several parachutes will allow the flying car to glide safely to the ground.
However, XPeng Aeroht recently presented another flying car concept: This one is called the Land Aircraft Carrier.
This is a three-axle off-road vehicle with a van look.
The passenger cabin should accommodate four to five people.
Here, too, something is hidden in the luggage compartment: In contrast to the eEVTOL, not only do the rotor arms extend, but a kind of electrically operated mini aircraft is revealed.

Land Aircraft Carrier: Mini Heli offers space for two people
There is space for two people in the “mini helicopter” – it should be able to fly automatically but also be controllable manually.
While the mini-heli takes off electrically, the six-wheeled carrier vehicle will be operated in a hybrid manner.
The land aircraft carrier could be used, for example, as an expedition or rescue vehicle.
If you're looking forward to having a modular flying car like this in your own garage, the regulations for aircraft are strict - even without a pilot's license, using the mini helicopter in this country would probably be impossible.
While many flying car concepts never leave the development status, series production of XPengt Aeroht's modular flying car is already within reach: According to the company, pre-orders will be possible at the end of 2024.
The first models are scheduled to be delivered from the fourth quarter of 2025.
Initially, the land aircraft carrier is only available in China.
