The Czech off-road vehicle Spartan EV is back on the market, having previously been produced by MW Motors starting from the electrification of the old Russian military vehicle Uaz Hunter.

With the addition of the 2.0 suffix and taking the Indian Force Gurkha as a 'donor' vehicle, the Spartan EV is ready to be distributed in European markets - the United Kingdom among the first markets - with a price that should be less than 60 thousand EUR.

The positioning of this 'naked and tough' off-road vehicle is evidently that of work vehicles.

This is confirmed by the longitudinal chassis, the high ground clearance and that type of spartan construction which - indispensable in India - also makes the difference in Europe compared to Western SUVs, almost all of which have a load-bearing body.

4,116 mm long and 1,812 mm wide, the Spartan 2.0 EV is considerably smaller than most off-road vehicles (for the benefit of maneuverability in tight spaces) but is larger than the Suzuki Jimny whose 'boxy' look it takes on board.

Its approach (front) angle is 38 degrees and departure angle is 35 degrees, with an estimated breakover angle of 25 degrees.

The curb weight of the Spartan 2.0 EV is 2,350 kg, the load capacity is 1,025 kg and the towing capacity is 3,000 kg.

While the body, longitudinal chassis, suspension, elements of the 4x4 transmission and passenger compartment are supplied by Force Motors, the Czech MW Motors carries out the electric conversion itself - based on a Chinese 57.4 kWh battery - with a single motor that transmits 176 HP and a huge 1,075 Nm of torque.

It does this through a transfer box with selectable two- or four-wheel drive and low-range gear ratios.

There are also differentials with manual locking at the front and rear and descent control.

MW Motors declares an autonomy of around 240 km with the possibility of charging with columns up to 90 kW, so a 'topping up' from 20 to 80% should take just over half an hour.

Bi-directional charging is also possible, meaning the Spartan 2.0 EV can supply 230V to power tools and other equipment.
