An administrative investigation was ordered targeting the police team which intervened on Friday at the home of a couple in Sanary-sur-Mer (Var), the Toulon prosecutor's office announced on Saturday.
Officers responded to a domestic dispute.
Shortly after they left, the husband stabbed his wife.
Friday at 2:30 p.m., a police emergency team was called to the couple's home, at the request of the 64-year-old wife.
The agents then noted on site “their respective state of alcoholism and the existence of a marital dispute”, details the Toulon prosecutor, Samuel Finielz, in a press release.

While the woman explains that she does not wish to file a complaint, her husband “spontaneously hands over several weapons and ammunition” to the police, weapons that he possessed illegally.
As soon as they left, the police were called back at 4:00 p.m.
There, they found the woman's lifeless body.
The husband, aged 69, “immediately indicates having killed his wife with a bladed weapon”, continues the prosecutor.
Determine whether the intervention rules “were respected”
“In order to determine whether the rules for intervention and handling of this type of situation were respected, an administrative investigation, parallel to the judicial investigation, was ordered by the interdepartmental police director,” specifies the prosecution.
The accused should be referred by Sunday with a view to the opening of a judicial investigation for homicide by spouse.
This couple was until now unknown to the courts.
A feminicide occurs on average every three days in France.
In 2022, 118 women were killed by their spouse or ex-spouse, according to a report from the Ministry of the Interior.
