In Austria and Switzerland there is a toll on the motorway.
New annual vignettes are due from February 1st.
Anyone who forgets that pays.
In many European countries, drivers have to pay to use the roads.
These include many countries where Germans like to vacation.
Using the motorway in Italy can quickly become a cost trap.
And in Austria and Switzerland too, many trunk roads are subject to charges.
If you want to go to Germany's neighboring countries in the coming days, you should first take a look at the vignette on the windshield.
If the annual vignette from 2023 is still there, it should be replaced with the one for 2024 as quickly as possible.
The same applies to the digital picks in Austria.
The reason: The validity of the previous year's vignette ends on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

No or incorrect vignette: fine of over 200 euros in Switzerland
Anyone caught without a badge or with an invalid badge will face hefty fines.
In Austria, the offense carries a fine of at least 120 euros.
In the event of manipulation, the penalty is doubled.
In Switzerland it is 200 francs (213.95 euros).
Fines imposed there will also be easier to collect in Germany in the future.
From February 1st, only the vignette for 2024 will be valid in Austria.

In addition to the fines, there is also the price for the new vignette.
This costs 96.40 euros in Austria if you buy it for the whole year.
However, there has recently been a cheaper version that is only valid for one day.
This costs 8.60 euros.
In Switzerland, the annual sticker costs 40 francs (around 43 euros).
This has also been available digitally since August 2023.

Annual vignette in Slovenia is valid for 12 months
If you are traveling to Slovenia in the meantime, you don't need to worry, the annual vignette is valid there for 12 months from the desired start date (e.g. May 1st, 2023 to May 1st, 2024).
These are only available digitally.
At 600 euros, the fine there is significantly higher than in Austria and Switzerland.
