"It is confirmed that MIT's orientation is to prevent speed cameras from being a hidden tax. Speed detectors must be a valuable tool for preventing accidents, not a way to make money."
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport specifies this in a note, after the words expressed yesterday by the Security Councilor of the Municipality of Milan Granelli on speed cameras: "In the future these checks can only be carried out if scheduled and requested from a commission in the Prefecture".
"The Security Councilor of the Municipality of Milan states that in the future speed cameras can only be installed with the approval of the prefecture: this procedure is already in force today, and whoever has governed the country almost continuously in the last ten years has not thought of changing the rule", specifies the MIT, which adds: "It is true, however, that the deputy prime minister and minister Matteo Salvini strongly wanted an update of the Highway Code after decades of waiting and which will allow greater controls to prevent accidents".
