He was speeding at 229 km/h on the A 24 Rome - L'Aquila Teramo motorway and his license was immediately confiscated.
The record speed was detected by the L'Aquila West Polstrada department engaged in a specific service to combat excessive speeding with the aid of telelaser equipment.
Several vehicles were checked along the motorway on Friday and several traffic violations were contested, but what caused the greatest stir were the recordings of 'monstrous' speeds reached by some drivers.
Five other motorists were caught traveling over the permitted limit and two were traveling at over 180 km/h.
