Vision Pro drop test/screenshot, AppleTrack
Apple's new mixed reality glasses, Vision Pro, were launched this weekend in the USA, and have already received the first durability tests. The results of the painful tests (very!), performed by the AppleTrack channel on YouTube, are pleasantly surprising and reveal that the glasses are more durable than many initially feared. And we remind those who forgot : This is a product that costs $3,500 (about NIS 13,000).
In the video you can see that in daily use, such as accidentally touching a wall or a closet while moving with the glasses on your head, the front glass of the Vision Pro gets scratches but does not break in a serious way. However, a drop from head height would probably completely break the front glass... but amazingly the device still more or less works.
To simulate normal accidental damage, such as accidentally bumping into objects while using transit mode at home, AppleTrack Channel Manager Sam Cole hit the Vision Pro against the walls of his room. The device easily survived normal force levels, and in fact you're more likely to get hurt and mildly concussed before the glass breaks.
However, the straps seem to be a bit of a weak point, as while the camera, glass and lenses survived, the right speaker stopped working, after the connection on the side of the strap came apart from the inside.
Other than that, the glasses survived and they handled a few drops on carpet well.
In the most extreme test, after an eighth drop from a significant height, the Vision Pro's glass finally cracked and shattered.
The amazing detail is that the broken glass layer can be easily removed, and the glasses themselves continued to work normally.
The internal and external EyeSight screens (which show the user's eyes) also turned on and worked normally, although a whole section of the front glass was no longer there.
