We knew him as leader of the Red Bonnets, in turmoil after exaggerated municipal celebrations in December 2021, this time it is for drunken driving that Christian Troadec is making headlines.
The mayor (DVG) of Carhaix, the Finisterian town which hosts the Vieilles Charrues festival every year, was caught this week, reports the local press.
Last Thursday, the elected official was the victim of a minor car accident while leaving a drunken lunch.
Accompanied by a professional acquaintance, Christian Troadec lost control of his vehicle and found himself in the garden of a house in Ploërdut (Morbihan).
According to Ouest-France and Le Télégramme, at the gendarmerie, the mayor was tested at 0.58 milligrams per liter of exhaled air.
If authorities retain only 0.53 milligrams per liter of exhaled air, or 1.06 g per liter of blood, that is still twice the permitted limit.
Questioned by Le Télégramme on the circumstances of this accident, the mayor of Carhaix assured that he wanted to “avoid an animal”.
“I was coming back from a business meal.
I haven't drunk for a year because of my health problems.
The medications I take may have played a role too.
There was probably one drink too many and I regret it,” he told the newspaper.
Speaking to France 3, he added: “There was a good atmosphere and I let myself be carried away (…) I really have to hold my own, that’s the lesson I learned from this accident.

“I put an end to Christian Troadec’s delegations today”
But this was not enough for the Brittany regional council.
Christian Troadec is in fact vice-president for Languages of Brittany and Bretons of the world in the Brittany region, but his delegations are suspended.
In a press release released this Sunday, the president of the region, Loïg Chesnais-Girard, announced: “Today I put an end to the delegations of Christian Troadec within the regional executive”.
According to him, “this accident which occurred under the influence of alcohol is serious.
I do not compromise with the essential principles and the position of vice-president requires exemplary behavior, expected by the Bretons.”
And to conclude: “From now on, I hope that Christian Troadec will do what is necessary to preserve his health.
The Plan for the reappropriation of the languages of Brittany which he brought before the regional hemicycle remains our roadmap and I guarantee its implementation.
